SKILLS COURSES - "Skills for the Hills"

Every attempt will be made to run the following courses but participants must be aware that some of the courses are naturally weather dependant. All technical equipment, ice axe and crampons, hard hats and harnesses, will be provided. Cost for same is included within the course fee. Each participant is also covered by a limited personal insurance policy. Details available.

MOUNTAIN SKILLS COURSES
January/February; March/April; September/October; November/December

• Tuesdays 21st October to 25th November 2008 (Practical Sunday 23rd November); 2009 Dates still to be arranged.  - Mountain Skills Evening Classes - A six evening Programme includes Hillcraft, Equipment, Navigation, Weather, Mountain First Aid, Environmental Issues, Winter Skills, Incident Management and finishes with a practical day on the hill putting all into practice. Cost £80.00.
  

• Saturdays or Sundays February and March 2009 (Braemar)  - one day practical course covering Navigation; Avalanche Awareness; use of the Ice Axe for security, step cutting and arresting a fall, use of Crampons. An ideal introduction for those with little or no winter experience (Max group size 6) Cost £70.00
  

• Saturdays or Sundays February and March 2009 (Braemar)   - One day practical course covering Avalanche Awareness; use of the Ice Axe for security, step cutting and arresting a fall; use of Crampons; steep ground security; snow shelters (Max group size 6) Cost £80.00
  

• Saturday/Sunday March 2009 - A two day course based in Glen Coe: day 1, mountaineering skills including ice axe and crampon technique and steep ground security; day 2, an ascent of Bidean Nam Bian in Glen Coe by classic gullies and ridges. Cost £220.00
  

• By Arrangement - Introductory Snow & Ice Climbing - one day practical course; an introduction to the climbing techniques necessary to ascend snow gullies and buttresses - (Max group size 3) Cost £100.00 per person

• Sunday 6th June; Sunday 30th August 2009 - Introductory Rock Climbing based on local sea cliffs. Covering Techniques, knots and belays, bottom & top roping techniques, safe abseiling technique. (Max group size 6) Cost £80.00
